Details
Specialised one-to-one music theory, composition and orchestration lessons from a composer working in the media industry. Before the first lesson, we will establish a plan of what you want to learn, how we will achieve it and then how many lessons it will take. Throughout the following lessons, we will then put the learning plan into place and I am available in between lessons for feedback and email correspondence. More relaxed, one-time lessons are also available. Subjects taught include:

Music Theory:
-The Basics (Chords, Keys, Scales, Modes, Notation and Rhythm)
-Genre-Specific (Theory for film/game music, rock, metal, classical, jazz etc.)
-Harmony (4-Part Chorale, Score Analysis, Qualification/Assessment tuition)
-Counterpoint (Modal/Renaissance, Tonal/Baroque and modern approaches)
-Advanced Theory (Post-Tonal Theory, Schenkerian Analysis etc.)
-
Jazz Theory (Chord-Scale Theory, Jazz Harmony, Improvisation)
-Score Analysis (Learn the techniques from your favourite composers and artists as we break down their theoretical and compositional approach in a piece of your choosing.)

Orchestration:
-Instrument Ranges
-Orchestration Technique
-Writing for small/chamber ensembles
-Writing for large ensembles
-Orchestrating in Sibelius or a DAW
-MIDI Mockups and Sampling

Composition:
-Developing ideas
-Music specifically for video games and films
-Feedback on your own pieces
-Theory tips to improve your pieces
-Orchestration/Instrumentation advice
-Mockups, Sampling, Mixing and Mastering your work
